Organizing a Local Dev Meetup
· One min read
A few of us have been talking about starting a regular in-person meetup for local developers. Here's what we're working with.
Why bother
Online communities are great but there's something that only happens when people are in the same room. Lower barrier to random conversation, faster trust-building, and honestly — it's just more fun.
Format ideas
- Lightning talks — 5–10 min, no slides required, just show something you built or learned
- Open hacking — show up, work on something, ask for help if you need it
- Theme nights — one topic (e.g., databases, compilers, side projects) with 1–2 speakers
What we need
- A venue (café, coworking space, office with a projector)
- A loose cadence — monthly seems manageable
- A few people willing to talk the first time
Status
We have a group chat and a tentative first date. If you're in the area and interested, reach out.
